Every kind of site a business needs.

New Websites

Strategy-first sites for businesses launching something new or finally replacing the site they've apologized for. Designed around your goals, not a theme.

Redesigns

Keep what works, fix what doesn't. We rebuild dated or underperforming sites without losing the content, traffic, and search standing you've earned.

E-Commerce

Stores, ticketing, and donations, including custom product page logic and checkout flows that go beyond what platforms offer out of the box.

Custom Integrations

Scheduling systems, searchable directories, automated sorting, third-party platform hookups: the features that make a site work like software.

SEO Fundamentals

Clean semantic markup, fast load times, structured data, and local SEO signals baked into every build, not sold back to you as an add-on.

Ongoing Support

Every new build carries a care plan for the first year, billed separately from the build. It covers ongoing maintenance and support, plus hosting for sites we host, with edit time included on the higher tier. After that it's month to month, and the site is documented either way.

Squarespace, pushed past its limits.

Squarespace is a great platform that most designers barely scratch. We use custom code to build things it doesn't offer off the shelf: automated author directories with alphabetical sorting for the Santa Fe International Literary Festival, custom product page logic for photographer Melanie Dunea, and animated brand presentation for PR firm Arons Advisors. You get Squarespace's easy editing with functionality that looks nothing like a template.

WordPress, built properly.

When a project needs custom functionality, plugins, or full control of its hosting, we build on WordPress, including custom plugin development, like the scheduling functionality behind Franco Roll Offs. No bloated page builders, no fifty-plugin stacks: lean builds that stay fast and maintainable.

And when platforms are too restrictive, custom code.

Every platform trades flexibility for convenience: templates, plugins, and page builders all put a ceiling on what your site can do. When a project calls for complete control of the design and the performance, we skip the platform and hand-code the site. No template limits, no plugin dependencies, nothing to update, break, or renew. The site you're reading is one of them.

From first call to launch day.

  1. Discovery & strategyWe dig into your audience, competitive landscape, and goals before writing a line of code. You get a clear scope and timeline up front.
  2. DesignLayouts and visual direction shaped around your brand and your visitors' path to becoming customers. Reviewed with you, not revealed at the end.
  3. BuildClean, fast, maintainable code on the platform that fits. You'll see progress as it happens and never wonder where things stand.
  4. Launch & supportWe handle the launch checklist (redirects, analytics, search indexing), then stick around for updates, improvements, and quick answers.

Middle Tennessee is home base.

Harpeth Web Design is based in Franklin and works with businesses across Nashville, Brentwood, Murfreesboro, Hendersonville, Mount Juliet, Spring Hill, and the rest of Middle Tennessee. That means local search matters to us the way it matters to you, and it means you can actually meet the person building your site.

The process travels well, too: recent clients include a literary festival in Santa Fe and a New York photographer. Local roots, not local limits.

Fair questions, straight answers.

How long does a website take to build?

A typical marketing site takes a few weeks from kickoff to launch. Larger builds with e-commerce, custom features, or heavy content take longer. You'll have a clear timeline before any work begins, and a heads-up the moment anything changes it.

Squarespace or WordPress: which should I choose?

It depends on your business, not our preference. Squarespace shines when you want polished design with easy self-service editing; WordPress wins when you need custom functionality, plugins, or full control of hosting. We build on both, and hand-code sites when a project calls for control no platform allows, so the recommendation follows the project.

Can you work on my existing website?

Yes. Redesigns, feature additions, performance fixes, and custom code on existing Squarespace and WordPress sites are a big part of our work. You don't need to start over to get a better site.

Do you offer ongoing support after launch?

Yes. Every new build carries a care plan for the first 12 months, billed separately from the build. It covers ongoing maintenance and support, plus hosting for sites we host, with edit time included on the higher tier. After that it's month to month with 30 days' notice, and most clients stay. Both tiers and their rates are on our pricing page.

Will my site show up on Google?

Every site ships with the fundamentals search engines expect: clean semantic markup, fast load times, mobile-friendly layouts, structured data, and local SEO signals for Middle Tennessee searches. Nobody can honestly promise a ranking, but we make sure nothing about your site holds one back.

What does a custom website cost?

Builds start at $2,500 for a focused site. Most custom business sites land between $4,000 and $7,500, and e-commerce or custom functionality goes above that. Every project gets a fixed quote after a short discovery call, so there are no surprise invoices. Our pricing page has the bands, the care plan rates, and what the first year actually comes to; our guide to what a website costs in Nashville covers the wider market.

Do you only work with businesses in Middle Tennessee?

No. Franklin is home base and most clients are in the Nashville area, but the process travels well: recent projects include a literary festival in Santa Fe and a New York photographer. Everything from kickoff to launch works the same over video calls.

What's included in a website project?

Strategy and discovery, design, development, and launch. That includes the details many quotes leave out: mobile layouts, SEO fundamentals like structured data and fast load times, the launch checklist of redirects, analytics, and search indexing, and documentation so your team can make day-to-day edits. The full walkthrough is in our process guide.

Who handles hosting and domains?

We handle the technical side. For WordPress and hand-coded sites, hosting is part of the care plan, so there's nothing separate for you to set up or renew. For hosted platforms like Squarespace, the platform's own subscription stays in your name and is paid by you, and the plan covers the parts the platform doesn't. Your domain works the same way: registered in your name, on your own account, because a web company that controls your domain can hold your business hostage.

Who owns my website when it's done?

You do, outright, on final payment, and you get admin access to everything. New builds carry a care plan for the first year, but that's a service arrangement rather than a claim on the site: cancelling it never costs you the website. Ask for a full export at any point and the site moves with you.

“He was always speedy in responding, professional and had a positive, friendly attitude the whole way through. We’ve relied on him on an ongoing basis to make more complex edits or to answer questions. Alec even created a “how-to” guide so that I could learn how to make the site changes myself in the future.”
