Melanie Dunea is an award-winning portrait photographer who sells prints of her work online. Her site has one job: make the photography look as good on screen as it does in print, then get out of the way.
What We Built
The portfolio and the print store are one site. We built the e-commerce side with custom-coded filtering and display options for different categories of prints, product page logic Squarespace doesn't ship with, and automated gallery management so new work slots in without manual rework.
The old site undersold the work.
Melanie's previous site was outdated and hard to navigate, and it made strong photographs look weaker than they are. For a photographer, that's disqualifying: if the site diminishes the images, nothing else it does matters.
Our Approach
Squarespace was the right platform here, as Melanie updates content herself between projects. We added the parts it was missing (e-commerce logic, optimized galleries, custom layouts) and wrote her a how-to guide so day-to-day changes never have to wait on us.
Melanie handles routine updates herself and keeps us on for the complex edits. That's the arrangement we aim for with every client: able to leave, choosing to stay.
